Daniel Roach, The Author . . . Is Not the Alchemist
My name is Daniel Roach and I’ve been an actor for the last seven years. I started this website to give actors a place to come together and discuss their craft. I’ve spent years on message boards and websites where conversations between actors boiled down to “What’s your favorite movie?” There wasn’t a place on the internet where actors could discuss their art and technique; so I decided to create one.
This website isn’t meant to be the teachings of an expert. I am not an expert. No one is. Acting is a craft in which there is no one technique for success. This is a place where I wax poetical about my passion. I want these articles to give a leg up to new and younger actors eager to learn and give some food for thought to more experienced actors who can share their thoughts. This site exists for the betterment of the human being as well as the technique.
In case you were wondering, I am not the Alchemist I’m just the guy who writes these articles. In all actuality there is no one person called “The Alchemist.” The site is so named for the archetypal image that the Alchemist brings to mind. The Alchemist is a magician, turning everyday materials into precious treasures. That’s what acting is, turning the world outside into the concentrated magic of the stage. The Alchemist is all about striving for excellence and the pursuit of art for the highest good of all.
Remember as you read through everything on this site that, be you an actor or not, any art form is a journey. The goal is not to create our art through ourselves, but to create ourselves as our art.
